Course Description:

This practical, foundational course introduces physiotherapists and other health professionals to the application of Pilates during healthy, non-high-risk pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Drawing on exercises from across the traditional Pilates system - including the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac and Wunda Chair - the course demonstrates how they can be adapted for clinical and mat-based settings. No Pilates apparatus is required.

Participants will examine prenatal and postpartum considerations, practical modifications, effective cueing and creative applications for small props. They will leave with an adaptable exercise toolkit and a general flow that can be immediately incorporated into clinical practice. The course is designed for professionals with little or no formal Pilates training.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply foundational Pilates principles to prenatal and postpartum care.
  • Adapt exercises for the physical changes of pregnancy and postpartum recovery.
  • Cue, modify and progress exercises based on symptoms and movement tolerance.
  • Use small props and sequence exercises into a practical session.

Optional Supplies: No equipment or props are required. Participants who wish to practise along may use an exercise mat, small Pilates ball, resistance band and light hand weights.

Audience:ย This course is open to all healthcare and wellness professionals.

Prerequisite: None - no previous Pilates experience necessary.
