Course Description:

This 4-hour course introduces current Pilates concepts to physiotherapists and other health and wellness professionals, focusing on prenatal and postpartum care. Participants will learn how to use Pilates principles to complement their clinical practice. Gain practical cues and tips for teaching Pilates successfully and leave with a toolkit of exercises that can be immediately implemented. The course also explores creative applications of small props, such as Pilates balls and resistance bands, that are commonly available in clinic settings. No prior Pilates experience is necessary.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand current Pilates concepts and how they apply to (non-high risk) prenatal and postpartum care.
  • Identify considerations for Pilates during healthy pregnancy and postpartum recovery.
  • Learn effective cues for teaching Pilates successfully.
  • Receive a toolkit of Pilates exercises tailored to prenatal and postpartum populations.
  • Explore practical applications for small props (e.g., Pilates ball, resistance bands) to enhance patient care.

Monica Plewes is a highly regarded Pilates educator and movement specialist with over 30 years of experience in the fitness and wellness industry, dedicating the last two decades solely to Pilates. As the founder of Core Pilates Studio and Academy in Toronto, Monica has earned a reputation for excellence in both teaching and training. She is the author of the "Core Pilates Method," a comprehensive program that integrates classical, contemporary, rehabilitative, and clinical Pilates. Additionally, she co-authored the "Core Fit Method," a program that combines Pilates with fitness.

Her extensive Pilates education spans classical, contemporary, and rehabilitative approaches, with comprehensive training from renowned schools, including Stott Pilates, BASI, and Power Pilates. As an internationally recognized Teacher Trainer for the esteemed classical Power Pilates, Monica travelled the globe, sharing her expertise and mentoring aspiring instructors.

As a lifelong movement advocate, she has attended hundreds of workshops on pre-and postnatal health, injuries, anatomy, breathwork, meditation, and corrective exercise therapy. Her passion lies in helping individuals move and feel better through rehabilitative and corrective exercise therapy and Pilates. Monica finds her greatest fulfillment in empowering individuals with injuries or chronic conditions to regain their strength, mobility, and confidence—whether directly or through the work of her former apprentices and students.
